In efforts to expand its mission to showcase Central Texas artists, Commerce Gallery is hosting bi-monthly pop-up exhibitions in the gallery’s main space. The curated shows will take place Friday-Sunday, every other month, with an opening party on Friday evening in coordination with Lockhart’s First Fridays events.
Renowned musician, visual artist, and Lockhart resident Dana Falconberry will launch the pop-up exhibition series on Friday, Aug. 2 from 6-9 p.m. Additional artists will be announced later this summer.
DANA FALCONBERRY
Dana Falconberry is an artist and musician living in Texas. She grew up dancing classical ballet and modern dance in Michigan before attending Hendrix College in Arkansas. In college she studied songwriting, which prompted her move to Austin in 2005. After touring, recording, and leading a band for over a decade, she now finds herself focused on visual art. She is currently a stitcher/designer at Fort Lonesome, a custom chainstitch embroidery company based in Austin, and makes linoleum block prints under the name Falconberry Prints. After learning to carve and print linoleum blocks from a friend in order to make her own album covers, she fell in love with the art form. About the process she says, "Printmaking is a dream to me due to its ancient and meditative nature, as well as its ability to convey detail while maintaining its own distinct aesthetic. I am endlessly inspired by the natural and supernatural worlds and the connections between them, and I hope to connect others to these worlds through my prints."
