“I initiated this painting series to explore my deep love of West Texas landscapes and study collected memories filtered through time and emotion. The substance of this terrain cannot be fully captured through a camera lens but is distilled internally to create a more personal and powerful response. West Texas landscapes are well known for their vast open spaces, rugged beauty, and unique natural features. There is something mystical about this region where open eyes and an open heart discover a deeper connection to the natural world and to oneself. I am endlessly inspired by the story the land holds and remain passionate about conveying the essence of this scenery. As an artist, my work interprets the strong visual contrasts of the landscape. The stark lines of the mesas and buttes and the spiny stems of ocotillo against the soft curves of the sand dunes are all alive in my drive to represent the magic of this realm. The resultant paintings are carefully conceived representations in their quiet solitude that involve a selective-interpretive process. I aim to showcase the interplay of light and shadow and the infinite complexity of the natural world to create a sense of wonder and transcendence. Infused color arrangements in varied hues and luminosity evoke combined memories that unfold from the resonance of experiences in the far west Texas desert. This series has provided a rich sensory palette to form a profound relationship with nature and a passion for the arid scenery and life it holds. Through my art, I invite viewers to contemplate their own connection and sense of awe available in this region and to reflect on the importance of preserving and protecting these vast treasures.”
